Brand New Tooth and Nail / Solid State Sampler

This could very well be the biggest news in free music since MyFreeMusicFriday.com shut down.  Only this time, it’s good news.

Tooth and Nail and Solid State Records have teamed up again to create the ultimate free sampler once again.  (The last one was the Hey! sampler, last year.)  This time, it’s full of free new and unreleased songs from the latest and greatest artists on Tooth and Nail.  To save time, I’ll just post the track listing.  It speaks for itself.

  • Children 18:3 - “LCM”
  • The Classic Crime - “Abracadavers”
  • Underoath - “In Regards To Myself (Live)”
  • Capital Lights - “Outrage!”
  • Ivoryline - “Be Still and Breathe”
  • Sever Your Ties - “Captive”
  • August Burns Reds - “Composure”
  • Secret and Whisper - “XOXOXO”
  • MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE - “HEADSHOT!”
  • Oh, Sleeper - “Vices Like Vipers”
  • Inhale Exhale - “I Needed A Spaceship (Instead I Got Problems)”
  • Destroy the Runner - “Mr. & Mrs. Cuckoldom”
  • Emery - “The Party Song”
  • MxPx - “Shut It Down”
  • The Becoming - “I Cry”
  • Anberlin - “The Haunting”
  • Demon Hunter - “Storm the Gates of Hell”
  • Once Nothing - “The Dust of A Town”
  • The Famine - “Scar the Earth”
  • Advent - “Blackout”
  • The Chariot - “And Shot Each Other”
  • Soul Embraced - “Curtain of Deceit”
  • Showbread - “The Pig”
  • Search the City - “Son of a Gun”
  • Family Force 5- “Fever”
  • Run Kid Run - “Captives Come Home”
  • Far-less - “A Toast To Bad Taste”
  • Norma Jean - “Robots 3 Humans 0″

You can get all of the mp3s for free, in one .zip file, just by entering your name, email, and country of residence at the website.  Tooth and Nail will them email you the link for the sampler.

For those wondering, Family Force 5 isn’t on Tooth and Nail Records.  Or they weren’t.  Actually, no one know for sure where Family Force 5 is right now.  They seem to be on T&N, but at the same time, there hasn’t been any announcements about a switch.  It’s a big confusing mess right now.  The good news is, “Fever” rocks.  :)

Other standout tracks are Anberlin’s “The Haunting”, which is a hauntingly beautiful Cities b-side, Capital Lights’ “Outrage!”, which is so unbelievable happy and catchy, it should be a controlled substance.  Capital Lights is one of the best power-pop bands I’ve ever heard, and a must-hear for Hello Kelly and Eleventyseven fans.

For hardcore fans, “Vices Like Vipers” by new hardcore band Oh, Sleeper, is amazing.  Tons of lyrical depth, plenty of screaming, eerie coruses, the works.  And you can’t go wrong with Demon Hunter, Norma Jean, The Chariot, Inhale Exhale, and August Burns Red.

Actually, most of the songs on this are must-hear.  Packed with new and old songs, this is one sampler you don’t want to miss.  After all, it’s free!

PS:  I think I got all the songs listed, but if I missed some, please, let me know!

Esterlyn Spotlight

Esterlyn on couchFree music spotlight today on one of my personal favorites, a band called Esterlyn.  They have three different songs available online, all from their new CD Lamps.  There is also three more available, but I’ll get to that later…

First, about Esterlyn.  Please, keep in mind that I may be a little biased.  They are a indie rock band on Rooster Records.  It’s hard to explain who Esterlyn sounds like, because they don’t sound exactly like anyone.  If asked, I would probably say a bit of House of Heroes, some Mute Math, a good deal of Number One Gun, all while maintaining a they’re own sound.  Driving guitars, keyboards, clean vocals.

Like I said before, I love Esterlyn.  They are one of the few staples on my mp3 player, and are right up with The Wedding, Number One Gun, Disciple, Pillar, and Falling Up as my all-time favorites.  They are also without doubt Christians, and it shows in their lyrics.

In short, they are awesome.  :)

Anyway, the first song available is “Tie the Leaves”, on the Indie Vision Music Summer Slam Vol. 2 free sampler.  It’s the opening song to Lamps, and one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard.  It’s a fast, happy, and short song about how people attempt to copy other people, because they are afraid to be themselves.  Thus, they tie leaves on trees to protect themselves.  This one was at the top of my favorites list for at least a month.

Next is “Reveal Your Love”.  It’s basically a slower, guitar-driven indie-rock worship-song-prayer.  It’s available on the band’s MySpace, so long as you have a MySpace account and are signed in.  Also very good.  While you’re at the band’s MySpace, you can also watch a video about the story of the band’s name, and the debut music video “We All Need”.

Quite possibly the best song of all three, “Faster, Faster” is a catchy rock song.  It practically screams summer with the windows down, racing along the highway.  Unlike the other songs, this song is actually about a girl, and how she comes to accept Christ.  Good stuff.  This song is available on the Fighting from the Ground Up Vol. 1 free internet sampler, also released by Indie Vision Music.

Update: Thanks to CCMSingles, I know have another free Esterlyn song download!  The song is called “Kill Your Own Despair”, and it’s available on the Interlinc website.  It’s an excellent song, which used to be on the band’s MySpace as a free download.  Some of you may already have it, some may not.

Update:  Once again, thanks to CCMSingles for finding another free song by Esterlyn.  The song is “Emptiness”, and looks sweet.  The only downside is it replaced “Reveal Your Love” as the free song on the band’s MySpace.

And now for the bonuses.  Before Esterlyn was Esterlyn, some of the band members were part of a band called Grand Prize.  Stylistically, it was more like Jeremy Camp then the new Esterlyn, but if you want to get the old songs, go right ahead.  Jeremy Camp is cool too.  :)  Three Grand Prize songs can be had on the groups MySpace profile.

J Remy Has Lost His Mind

J RemyYes, it’s official. J Remy has officially lost his mind. He’s giving away his brand new CD, Shake the Dead, absolutely free. You can get all the details on J Remy’s MySpace blog.

This brings back memories for me, since J Remy was one of my early posts. I just checked, and the two songs I featured then are still available, so if you enjoy the new CD, you can get “Country Boys” and the record breaking “You Don’t Know Me”, featuring Pigeon John and Bonafide of Grits for free. You can also see J Remy’s western debut music video on the post as well.

Anyway, check J Remy out. It’s not everyday you see a indie rap artist with as much talent, and it’s not everyday that you hear rap with a country-bluegrass twang. He’s one of my favorite’s, and hopefully will be one of yours.

New Free Relient K - With A Twist!

As you may know, Relient K is releasing a new CD called The Birds and The Bee Sides. Well, almost a CD. It has quite a few new songs, and a ton of old, rare Relient K songs. Today’s free music is actually a B-side from the B-side CD. That’s all I will say.

Now, the reason I’m not going to say any more is because to get the download, you need to solve a puzzle. A crossword puzzle, to be exact. It’s a brilliant idea, really.

You can find the crossword on Relient K’s MySpace blog. It’s a pretty simple puzzle, with only three words. Once you crack the puzzle, you need to visit the implied website and find the little bird, which will lead you to the free song. I know it sounds complicated, but it’s really more of a treasure hunt then anything else. Besides that, it’s fun. :)

-Relient K’s Latest MySpace Blog Post-

Also, if you’re like me, and can’t quite figure out even the simplest puzzle without much thought and concentration*, you may find One Across helpful. It’s a free website that somehow helps solve crosswords.

*I think we may just be out of practice.

Free Music from Deas Vail

Deas VeilDeas Vail has just posted their song “Shoreline” on their Purevolume. It’s download-able, which is pretty cool. I don’t know how long the download will be up, so Deas Vail fans had better seize the opportunity and get the song as soon as possible.

The song itself is a nice, mellow, soft-ish, indie rock. It’s kind of hard to explain unless you’re heard Deas Vail before. It’s really good.

-Deas Vail on Purevolume-
Update: I can’t believe I spelled the band’s name wrong… It’s Deas Vail, not Deas Veil. Sorry!
