Random Notes
Some random notes from The Free Christian Music Blog…
1. I’ve started working on a list of weird and funny Christian song titles, and I need your help. If you could comment or email me with your favorite weird songs titles (think Underoath’s “I’ve Got Ten Friends and A Crowbar That Say You Ain’t Gonna Do, Jack” and Falling Up’s “The Dark Side of Indoor Track Meets”.) The weirder, the better. If you leave a first name and optionally a URL you can even get credited for sending it in. Thanks!
2. If you haven’t checked out FreeHOH.com yet, do it. There is some seriously good music on there.
FM Static Songs
Free music today from FM Static. You can get two free songs from them, “Crazy Mary” and “Definitely Maybe”, on the official FM Static Purevolume page. “Definitely Maybe” is definitely a relationship song, while “Crazy Mary” is… a relationship song. Both of the songs are former radio hits, and pretty awesome. Enjoy!
Free Switchfoot Bootlegs
Last year, a band called Switchfoot released a CD called Oh! Gravity. You may have heard of it. When the CD came out, Switchfoot went on the Oh! Gravity tour to promote the CD. While they were on tour, they recorded every show and sold the live bootlegs to every single performance after the show. Later, on the Switchfoot website, this band called Switchfoot gave fans the right to freely share the bootlegs they bought.
Overnight, Switchfoot Bootlegs was born.
Basically, Switchfoot Bootlegs asked every fan to upload their bootlegs so any and all Switchfoot fans can enjoy the live shows wherever they are. The sheer amount of music blows me away. It is a Switchfoot fan’s dream land. Definitely worth checking out.
Free Song Downloads from Floodgate
Floodgate Records has some of the best under-the-radar artists in Christian music today. Artists like Number One Gun and The Myriad both began on Floodgate, before moving on to fame. They also have some of the best alternative rock bands.
If you were to surf over to the Floodgate Records Media page right now, you’d find 8 free mp3’s, representing the best Floodgate has to offer, including:
- Forever Changed - “Need To Feel Alive” and “Encounter”
- The Myriad - “Perfect Obligation”
- Yellow Second - “Chance of Sunbreaks”
- Mourning September - “Closer to Closure”
- Cool Hand Luke - “The Foster”
- East West - “Vacant”
- The Insyderz - “Soundtrack to a Revolution”
- Dennison Marrs - “Dancing Over Me” (Unfortunately, the mp3 is corrupted)
I was surprised when I first found this. I wasn’t expecting to hear ska (The Insyderz) or heavy metal (East West). Once I got over the shock, I realized that it was actually pretty good stuff.
Free Music From Krystal Meyers
Which American Christian female artist has released two CD’s, had several popular songs released to radio, went number one in Japan (Seriously!), had her music featured on prime time television, and has two songs on her MyCCM profile that you can download for free?
(Hint: Look at the title.)
That was kind of obvious. I’m talking about Krystal Meyers. She really did all of the things I listed, which is pretty cool. And you can really download “Beauty of Grace” and “Collide” for free on her MyCCM profile. That brings this Q. & A. to a close.
Pocket Full of Rocks Easter Download
Praise and worship band Pocket Full of Rocks has released a free song called “At The Cross” to celebrate Easter Sunday. Even though that was a few days ago, you can still download it free. Also, when you download the song, you can remember to also download the chord chart.
(I Forgot to Title This Post so: Free Christian Electronica)
One style of music I’ve never really featured much on here is electronica. That’s about to change.
Creuk Radio is an Christian electronica radio show in Oregon. Their website includes two free compilations from independent Christian electronica artists. The first, Oregon Christian Electronica Compilation, has ten songs, while the Happy Birthday Jesus Christmas album has eleven songs. Both are absolutely free and legal. I haven’t had time to listen to all of the songs, but I’ve enjoyed what I heard. Definitely worth checking out.
Easter Sunday: He’s Alive!
Thanks to a suggestion from a reader, today’s free downloads are courtesy of Don Francisco. Don has 12 different full CDs available for free download on his website. That’s 137 songs! I think that’s some kind of record. All of the songs are by either Don Francisco, his wife Wendy Francisco, and their daughter Annie Brooks.
You are free to download all of the songs, with a free-will gift if for the music if you choose to do so.
In addition to that, Don also writes that if you want to burn a CD of his music to give to a friend you’re free to do so. The only requirement is to write the URL of his site on the disk.
Now, the reason I choose Don Francisco for Easter Sunday as opposed to someone else is because of He’s Alive- Collection Vol I, the title track for that collection is a song called “He’s Alive”. It’s Don Francisco’s most famous song, and is a nice Easter song. If you only download one song from Don’s website, it should be “He’s Alive”
CCMSingles (Radio Singles, not Single-Singles)
Today I thought I’d mention one of my favorite sites, which also happens to be one of the best free music sites on the internet. The site is CCMSingles.net.
CCMSingles features lists of recent Christian radio singles, a music video database, great artist information, and a three page list of free music downloads. It’s very comprehensive, and includes almost every style imaginable.
I should warn you though, you’re going to see quite a few downloads there that I’ve featured. That’s because I’ve got a “peace treaty” of sorts with the Stephen, guy who runs the site. He’s free to use any downloads I’ve covered for his site, while I do the same with his list. It’s worked quite well so far, and combined, we’ve managed to keep a steady stream of music into fans ears.
Anyway, check the site out. You just might find your favorite song!
Free As I Lay Dying
As I Lay Dying is had a busy year. They released their latest CD An Ocean Between Us, filmed two of the most anticipated (and expensive looking) music videos in Christian rock history, and they were nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. Unfortunately, they didn’t win.
As I Lay Dying also has two of their older songs available on their Purevolume. The songs are “94 Hours” and “Forever”. They are both from Frail Words Collapse, and are some of As I Lay Dying’s most famous songs.
