7 Hours: Please, Anybody, Vote Now!
Just a reminder: you have seven hours left to vote in the poll. I would really like to reach 50 votes, and right now, 49 people have voted. So, if you haven’t voted yet, please, go do it right now! Shout out!
4 Free Songs from Subseven
I love Subseven. Since I found these four songs on their Purevolume, I’ve listen to them almost daily. Anyway, Subseven is a rock-screamo-punk band. I am not sure how they manage to be all three, but it sure sounds good. Like I said before, you can download four songs from Subseven for free at their Purevolume page. Of the songs, three have had music videos released for them, and I think that they all were number one singles at one point. “Emotion” is the first track. It’s an anthematic rock song about breaking free from sin It’s from the EP (that’s actually what they called it). Next is “Game of Love”. It’s also from the EP. It features screaming, as well as understandable singing. It is also where the band’s faith shines through. The whole song could be sung in church (maybe) if you could play it on the piano. Awesome stuff. After that is “Free to Conquer”. Compared to the first two songs, this one is pretty tame. No screaming at all. Last but not least is “Hold On”, a remind to hold on, because this world is not our home. All awesome songs.
Download Fono’s New CD Free!
Fono has had a tough time with this CD. They were first sold to another record company, then they woke up in a two-year long lawsuit, which kept them from recording anything. After that was over and they were almost finished with their new album, wildfires destroyed the recording studio, burning everything, including the almost complete CD. Finally, after re-recording the entire thing, they really, really want people to enjoy their music.
Thus, they decided to release the entire CD for free online. You can download the entire 10 song album (aptly titled Too Broken To Break), as well as the lyric sheet, the cover art, and the tray thing that you put inside, if you want to burn a CD-R. If you are wondering how good the CD could be, it’s good. I haven’t listened to the entire thing straight through yet, but what I’ve heard I’ve enjoyed. Actually, I am listening to it right now. But don’t take my word for it. JesusFreakHideout.com gave them 4 out of five stars. Pretty good for a free CD! Sonically, Fono sounds a little like Switchfoot and U2. I’m not sure how to describe them beyond that. It sounds some how familiar, but I’m not sure how.
To download the CD, you’re asked to provide your email address and that of 5 other people. In my experience, most people don’t mind finding out about something like this. Nevertheless, if you can’t think of five friends who you think would enjoy a free CD, you can use my email address as one of them. It’s freechristianmusicblog (at) gmail (.) com. Oh, and I would appreciate it if you mention in your message to your friends that you heard about it here, at the Free Christian Music Blog.
Kevin Max - Formerly of DC Talk..
I’ve got a sweet, kind of old song from Kevin Max today. Kevin Max, as you probably know, is 1/3 of DC Talk (along with TobyMac and Micheal Tait), and also a popular solo artist. You can head over to his Purevolume right now and download a free copy of his song “Sanctuary”. Like a good deal of free music, it’s a few years old, but still a good track. It’s been played heavily on my laptop and mp3 player. If you like this song, you might also want to check out his new CD, The Blood, which hit stores recently.
Current Poll Results: It’s a close race!
With three days left to vote, it’s a heated battle between “Any point after Halloween” and “After Thanksgiving”. Currently in last is “Never” with zero votes, with “Christmas Day” right after it, with three votes. If you haven’t voted yet, I strongly recommend that you do so. Shout out!
A Late Christmas Download from Surrogate
Today’s download is a late Christmas present from Surrogate, who recorded “Christmas Don’t Be Late” (also know as “The Chipmonk Song”) as a free download on their Myspace page. I wasn’t sure how the song would sound, being sung by anyone other then Alvin and the Chipmunks, but I think they did it well enough.
Free Sampler from InPop Records
Thanks to reader Logan for submitting this! Inpop records has released a brand new iPop sampler for 2008! It has twelve different songs from Newsboys, Tree63, Shane and Shane, and features some new artists as well. The track listing:
1. Newworldson - Salvation Station
2. newsboys - Your Love Is Better Than Life [St. Petersburg Mix]
3. Everyday Sunday - Wake Up! Wake Up!
4. Superchick - We Live
5. Tree63 - Alright
6. Article One - In No Time At All
7. Shane & Shane - We Love You Jesus
8. Jimmy Needham - Lost At Sea
9. Newworldson - Gimme
10. Everyday Sunday - Find Me Tonight
11. Article One - Slow Down
And if that’s not enough, you also get a free download of Everyday Sunday’s new music video for the song “Wake Up! Wake Up!”. You’ll notice that Article One, Newworldson, and Everyday Sunday are all featured twice. That’s because they are newer artists who Inpop wants to give maximum exposure. Though others may disagree, I think that the best song in the sampler is from the Newsboys. While Superchick and Everyday Sunday both have some good songs, I would download the entire thing again to get that one song. You do need to give your email address to download the sampler, but there’s chance of spam. I’ve yet to receive any mail except for the one with instruction on downloading said sampler. Make sure you tell them you heard about it here, at the Free Christian Music Blog.
3 of the Downsides of Free Music
1. Disappointment. Yesterday, I discovered that August Burns Red had allowed fans to download “Carol of the Bells” from their Myspace page for free on Christmas day. I was soo disappointed. I love that song! And I missed it! When you’re looking for music online, you are certain to be disappointed at some point. Maybe it’ll be a My Free Music Friday you’ll forget about, or a free song you are a day late for, or maybe even a download that doesn’t work. The best thing to do is to learn from your mistake and don’t get yourself down.
2. Mp3 Player to Small. Sooner or later, you are going to run out of storage space on your Mp3 player. You’ll just have too many songs. The only ways to solve this problem, in my experience, is to (a) see if your Mp3 player has an expansion slot for extra space, (b) put a new Mp3 player on your Christmas list, or (c) live with it. I’ve done all of three.
3. You Love too Much Music. This is something I have a problem with. I have 163 different artists in my music library! And I like them all! I can listen to a nice worship song, then go to a screaming hardcore track, to rap, to punk, to electronic, to pop, and enjoy all of it. Actually, this is only really a problem when you’re trying to decide what to put on your Christmas list. Eventually, you’ll will probably end up with many, many favorite artists.
New Poll, New Music from Disciple, and a New Search Box
Free music now from one of my favorite bands, Disciple. You can download their hard-hitting song “Scars Remain” for free at their Purevolume page. The song is the title-track from the group’s latest album, Scars Remain. I love this song. It’s really on of the best song on the new album. Incidentally, the music video for the song placed fifth on TVU’s list of the top music videos of 2007. Oh, and for another free Disciple song, see here.
Also, if you’ve subscribed to receive post via email, you need to check out the page version. I have a new poll on now. The question is “When Do You Listen to Christmas Music?”. There has been 24 votes so far. Surprisingly, most people start listening to Christmas after Halloween. The poll does end New Year’s Eve, which should give you plenty of time to vote. Sound off! Also, while you’ve at the homepage, you should try out the new search box I just put up. It allows you to search this site as well as the entire internet easily. Hopefully, it’s make it easier for everyone to find music they like that they wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Other then that, merry Christmas and a happy New Year’s!
Christmas Series: Day 12 - Carried Away, Christine Evans
Well, this is the last of the Christmas series. I am just going to post everything I’ve got left today. Which just happens to be Carried Away and Christine Evans, as well as a couple of bonuses. You can download two different Christmas songs at Christine Evan’s Myspace page, “Mary Did You Know?” and “How Far to Bethlehem”. Alas, like all Myspace downloads, you need to be signed in to Myspace to download the songs.
After you’ve got those, you can switch over to Carried Away Insiders (CAI) and download five different songs free after you sign-up. You can get “Christmas Medley”, which is rendered acapella. Next is “Soaring Through the Sky”, which is a nice, pop-contemporary song, followed by two remixes of “Mystery”, which is also a great song. Finally, the 2007 Christmas song, “Snow Falls”. It’s way better then the first song “Christmas Medley”. Slow and Christmas-y. Great song.
Now for the bonuses. You can listen to Spoken’s “Mary Did You Know” on their Myspace page, here. You can also listen to TobyMac’s “This Christmas” here. And, you can listen to Stellar Kart’s original song “Punk the Halls” on their Myspace page! And, if that’s not enough, you can listen to Christmas songs by Anberlin, the Huntington’s, and probably Joy Electric, though I didn’t check. Just look and you’ll probably find.
Also, I found this song that’s free. It’s not exactly the best song, but it’s free and Christmas. Get it here.
And with that, I bring to a close the Christmas Series…
